As gunfire and explosions neared her home in Manipur, India, Mary grabbed what she could and fled on foot with her two young children into the night, urgently escaping while there was still time.
Message from the CEO
As I step into my first year as the new CEO of Tearfund Canada, I am filled with gratitude for each of you. Together with our local church-based partners, we have witnessed how united efforts in Christ can bring about profound transformations in the lives of those we serve.
In the spirit of Philippians 1:3-5, I thank God every time I remember you. Your support and prayers elicit joy as we work side by side, following Jesus where the need is the greatest. It is not an “us” and “them” approach but rather a beautiful collaboration where churches and Christians come together around the world for the glory of God. Working together with God and our local partners, I am amazed at the remarkable impact we have been able to make.
Your tangible contributions make it all possible. Together, we have equipped individuals with essential skills, fostered sustainable livelihoods, and reinforced the importance of the local Church as a catalyst for change. As 1 Corinthians 12:27 reminds us, we are all part of the body of Christ, each playing a vital role in our mission to see people freed from poverty and embrace their God-given potential.
With heartfelt thanks,

How one widow’s death led to 90 people knowing Jesus

Gununo Stadium Church in Segno, Ethiopia, has long preached God’s word, but Pastor Mesfin Yacob saw the need for more. Surrounded by poverty, he sought a way to serve the whole community. Tearfund’s Church and Community Transformation (CCT) training became the solution, equipping the church to make a lasting impact.
A thriving field and renewed confidence

“We were destitute. We were just very hopeless. The only hope for us was God,” Bereket shared as he recalled his former situation.
Bereket Ukesa and his family in Hobicha, Ethiopia, struggled with hunger and despair as unpredictable rains disrupted their livelihood, sometimes arriving late—or not at all.
Out of poverty in 3 years

Mariamu, a mother of three in rural Tanzania, knows the struggle of making ends meet. Running a small tailoring business with her husband, they barely afforded food—ironically, some years, she couldn’t even buy proper clothes for her children.
Her family wanted her to marry a man twice her age

Rebecca’s life changed in an instant when she came home from school to learn her family had arranged her marriage to a man twice her age. Shocked and unprepared at just 17, she protested—but the decision had been made years ago, without her knowing.
The life-giving power of water

After years of struggle, John Mwangangi and his cousin, Judas, witnessed a miracle—the spring flowed again for the first time in years. Once parched land and dried-up springs, caused by changing rains and deforestation, had left them without hope.
From our Partners

Lister Nyang’any, Program Director, Diocese of Central Tanganyika, Tanzania
'Tearfund Canada is the only partner that has maintained the partnership longer than 1996, allowing for progressive growth and capacity building. The agriculture, livelihoods, and savings programs we are able to implement in partnership together have positively impacted communities with regard to improved household food, income and nutrition security despite climate change, and recurrent droughts in Tanzania as a whole. Recently, we have introduced Church and Community Transformation to appropriately address both the physical and spiritual needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized community members, not only from within but also outside the church. We humbly extend our heartfelt thanks for the generosity of Canadian churches and Christians and may God bless you abundantly. We continue to pray for you every month.'

Josephine Munywoki, Executive Director, Fadhili Trust, Kenya
'Fadhili is eternally grateful for the support we have been receiving from churches in Canada. There is a saying in Africa that, “We are, because you are!” As a result of your partnership, God has been glorified in over 70,000 homes in Kenya since 2009. Families have learned and are practicing climate-smart agriculture, how to save and invest wisely, and local churches have become light and salt to the world! We can never thank you enough. Your prayers keep us refreshed and rejuvenated as we continue being the hands and feet of Jesus, wherever He leads us. May God respond positively to the desires of your heart.'

Jeannette Muteho, Baptist Church of Central Africa, DR Congo
'We thank God for our partnership with Tearfund Canada and appreciate their support in project design, project implementation, capacity building, and visits for both staff and participants. We value their focus on long-term projects, which results in an increased impact on the lives of the people we serve. In addition to financial support, Tearfund demonstrates Christian values and embodies a kind and courteous relationship with us. We feel valued and are grateful for it. Merci beaucoup, Asante sana! (Thank you very much!)'
Key Areas
Church Mobilization
The church is unstoppable because God is unstoppable. Through Tearfund, you're partnering with local churches to create real change and lead their communities to a future of hope and opportunity.
You’re partnering with the local church for lasting change
In 2024, your support helped train 391 churches to fight poverty and spread faith, leading to thriving communities and a growing Kingdom of God.
Economic Empowerment
Last year, you provided families with the tools to help them slowly climb out of poverty using their own two hands and see a future of hope and opportunity.
Your partnership is helping families break free from poverty
Poverty isn’t just about money—it steals dignity and hope. Thanks to you, families are learning to save, grow their income, and break the cycle of poverty using their God-given abilities.
Emergency Aid
Sadly, last year was a record year for disasters. You gave us the ability to respond.
Your partnership provides life-saving aid
When disaster strikes, the poor suffer most. Your support has provided life-saving aid to thousands affected by war, floods, and drought, bringing hope in times of crisis.
Food Security
Recent events have pushed many families back into extreme hunger. But thanks to your help - we're pushing back. Last year you helped us not only meet immediate food needs but also set families on a path to having enough food for the future.
Your partnership is helping end extreme hunger
Hunger affects more than just meals—it impacts health, education, and confidence. With your support, Tearfund is providing long-term solutions through farming, training, and economic programs to help families overcome hunger for good.
Investing in Women
Gender abuse, violence and disrespect contravenes God's idea of partnership. Last year you helped equip and empower thousands of women and girls, providing them with confidence and putting them on a path to abundance.
Your partnership is helping women and girls thrive
Women still face deep inequality, but when they thrive, whole communities benefit. Through Tearfund, you are helping remove barriers so women can access new opportunities and flourish.
Climate Adaptation
To those living in poverty, a changing climate is a matter of life and death. Droughts, floods, and disasters are making more difficult to farm and are destoying homes and livelihoods. But together, we're bringing hope.
Your partnership is helping care for creation
Environmental disasters hit the poor hardest. With your help, Tearfund is equipping farmers in Africa to adapt, protect the land, and build a more hopeful future.
Part of Something Bigger
Our Partners
Our partners are an essential part of our work. They are on the frontlines, working in some of the most challenging conditions, serving the poor and implementing our life-changing work. By working through partners, our programs are locally led, cost-effective, and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. Our Canadian partners are an invaluable source of prayer, funds, and encouragement as we walk together in serving Jesus where the need is greatest.
Financial Accountability
Tearfund Canada exists to provide relief and development assistance to the world’s most oppressed, poor, and suffering people by partnering with churches and other Christian agencies and organizations.
We trust God for our finances. Our operations depend on the generosity of individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses, as well as contracts from Global Affairs Canada and through Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Help Transform More Lives
Moving Forward – Together
We are committed to working through and alongside nationally-led churches and their relief & development arms to be catalysts for sustainable change. As we look forward to 2025 and beyond, we have four key priorities.

Depending More On God
As we continue to develop our strategic plan for the next three years, one of the characteristics we want to increase emphasis on is our dependence on God. Depending more on God is never a finished task. We must rely on God daily for wisdom, direction, financial needs, and strength. Without constantly abiding in Christ, we can do nothing. As we move forward into 2025 and beyond, we will be intentional about seeking God first.

Investing in Church and Community Transformation
Church and Community Transformation is our passion. It empowers, it’s sustainable, and it offers extraordinary value for money. Through it, we see entire communities permanently lifting themselves out of poverty. In 2025, we want to invest more in Church and Community Transformation, continuing to grow it as one of our key distinctives. Our ultimate aim is to see all churches living out their call to Integral mission and living families out of spiritual and physical poverty.

Investing in Systems and Processes
We have been blessed to be able to invest into more projects and lift more families out of poverty over the last few years. In order to continue to increase our impact and be good stewards of what God has given us, we recognize the need to invest in more robust systems and processes, including financial systems, IT support, and HR. Some of these will require significant upfront investments with the promise of long-term gains. If you are interested in contributing to these projects in some capacity, either financially or in-kind, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Strengthening Partnerships
We hope that this report has demonstrated the importance of our partnerships in the work that we do. We simply could not do what we do without them. Moving forward, we will continue to invest in our current partnerships to try to make them stronger and more effective. We also want to explore new partnerships, at home and abroad, to see how we can work with others to achieve even greater Kingdom impact.
