Discovery Trips

What is it?

Tearfund’s Discovery Team trips are a 10-day experience to help our Church leaders and donors to understand the humanitarian work we do. Throughout the 10 days, you’ll be able to understand the countries we work in through the lens of the local population, the church, and our local partners.

Discovery Team 2023/2024

In 2023 and 2024, Tearfund will be leading several Discovery Team trips to Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, where we have been working for decades, and are currently implementing major projects through our strong local partners and the church.

Participating in a Discover Team will provide you with the opportunity to witness first-hand the programs you support, you will gain an understanding of how through Tearfund’s interventions, communities are transformed. But most importantly, you will see what God is doing through you and the lives you helped.

Ethiopia

• 6^th to 18^th July 2023 and 4^th to 16^th July 2024

• 9^th to 19^th November 2023

Kenya/Tanzania

• 9^th to 20^th of March 2023

How to Apply

Each trip consists of six to eight people. This is to ensure quality personal interaction and learning experiences.

Pre-departure Training

Once your application has been accepted, you will be enrolled in pre-departure training. This includes several sessions covering a range of topics to prepare you for your trip. You will also need to submit a small deposit to confirm your spot at this time.

Off You Go!

You will join the rest of the team for an adventure of a lifetime! Upon your return, you will have a quick debrief session to discuss what you’ve learned and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost money to join a Discovery Trip?

Yes. Cost of each particular discovery trip varies, and includes airfare, accommodations, in-country food, transportation, and visas.

Do I require vaccinations?

Yes, participants are required to obtain the necessary vaccinations for trips in most of our countries.

What does a typical Discovery Trip include?

Each Discovery Trip is unique, but typically you can expect to meet and participate in devotionals with local churches, sit in and learn about Tearfund programming, and enjoy meals with local people. Recreational and sight-seeing activities are usually scheduled as well.

How long are Discovery Trips?

Approximately two weeks.

How many people can join a Discovery Trip?

Six to eight people. This is to ensure quality personal interaction and learning experiences.
