A story of God’s Creation
For many of our brothers and sisters around the world, traditional farming practices, changing weather, and war prevent them from enjoying one of the most important provisions that we all need to survive.
When you support Tearfund Canada, you are helping people access what God has already made available. Whether it is introducing swamp rice farming in West Africa or conservation agriculture in the dry, arid climates of East Africa, new agricultural practices help poor smallholder farmers produce more food for their families – sometimes as much as 5x what they produced before receiving training from our church-based partners!
These kinds of results have caught the attention of the Canadian government. Through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, they have asked the Church to spread conservation agriculture even faster and train 50,000 farmers in East Africa by 2020! It is exciting for us to be part of seeing so many more people become secure by meeting their most basic need: food.
We believe God’s creation CAN support His children, and that no one should go hungry or be malnourished. With your support, the Church – in Canada and overseas – is bearing witness to the goodness of God.
When a landslide in India swept away Shylaja’s home and tailoring business, she lost everything. Tearfund’s partner provided her with a new sewing machine, empowering her to earn an income again and rebuild her family’s future. Her story is a powerful example of hope, resilience, and sustainable disaster recovery.
Kwabo Marungu’s life in the DRC changed after his local church introduced him to conservation agriculture. Once struggling to feed his six children, he now has a thriving banana farm, goats, and rabbits—and a year-round food supply. As he trains neighbours in these techniques, the entire village is experiencing greater harvests, restored dignity, and the hope of Christ.
