Wasifa used to travel over forty-five minutes from her small village to a city hospital for diabetes testing.
Her blood sugar levels were high because she could not afford the necessary medication after paying her travel expenses. Often the hospital did not even carry the medication she needed.
When Tearfund Canada’s partner MEDAIR opened a clinic just a ten minute walk from Wasifa’s home, accessing healthcare was no longer an issue for her. This was the first time Wasifa was able to receive proper treatment for her diabetes through suitable medical equipment and medication.
Thanks to the establishment of her local clinic, Wasifa is able to live a healthy, active life.
