Hunger Crisis in South Ethiopia
Help rush emergency food to feed starving families in Ethiopia.
After an unprecedented three years of drought, the situation has become desperate. Millions of people are at the risk of starvation… unless we step in and help.
As we get out of the car, the smell of decay stings the nostrils. Then we see the cause… a whole herd of cattle lie dead on the dusty ground. “It’s like they all just died at the same time,” our local partner says.
The villagers want me to visit a village elder. It’s dark in his hut but it’s quickly apparent that this man is dying. He spoke briefly about his difficult condition as he laid in bed. He was surviving on one bag of Famix (a nutritional supplement) and being cared for by his family.
We see massive pits where villagers have buried their dead cattle. Some families have removed the thatch off their roofs to give to their cows in an effort to keep them alive. But it’s no use.
The vultures don’t sit far away. They know it won’t be long.
