A Visit from the Church in South Sudan With

Bishop Joseph

May 16 - June 10, 2026

A voice from one of the world’s most vulnerable regions

Tearfund is honoured to welcome Bishop Joseph from South Sudan, who will be visiting Canada to share firsthand stories of faith in action. As a church leader supporting refugees through a network of pastors and volunteers, Bishop Joseph offers a compelling glimpse into how the local church is bringing hope in the midst of conflict, displacement, and hardship.

This is an opportunity for your congregation to:

  • Learn about South Sudan
Hear firsthand how ongoing conflict and displacement affect everyday life—and how communities are persevering with hope.

  • See how the local church is responding
Discover how pastors and volunteers are supporting refugees, strengthening families, and serving as a steady presence in the midst of crisis.

  • Be encouraged in faith
Witness how faith endures under pressure, reminding us that the Church is alive, resilient, and active around the world.

  • Grow in compassion and global awareness
Help your congregation—young and old—develop a deeper understanding of global injustice and God’s heart for those who are vulnerable.

  • Engage your community beyond Sunday
Create space for conversation, prayer, and reflection that can extend beyond the service into small groups, youth gatherings, or regional events.

About Bishop Joseph:

The Right Reverend Joseph Mamer Manot is a Bishop of the Episcopal church of South Sudan, serving in Northern Bhar el ghazal internal Province in the Aweil region of South Sudan.

He shepherds 45,105 Episcopalians, 95 parishes and 52 pastors. Bishop is completing his 2 year Master of Theological Studies at Uganda Christian University concentrating on Development studies.

In 2018, Bishop Joseph created a relief and humanitarian arm of his diocese and called it Christian Initiative for Restoration and Development Agency (CIRDA). Through CIRDA Bishop Joseph and his staff respond to food emergencies, improve access to quality education, improve food security and livelihoods, and mitigates the effects of GBV (Gender Based Violence) and provide protection to this most vulnerable sector.

He champions Church and Community Transformation as he leads several denominations in the area training them in the principles of CCT and Trauma healing.

Bishop Joseph has a shepherd’s heart and he works tirelessly to feed and protect the flock that the Lord has given him.

He is married to Revd. Clarice Achieng Mamer who currently works as Human Resource Manager for Malaria Consortium South Sudan and God has blessed them with 3 children, Joanna (17), John (14) and Joshua (11)
