Stand With Families Affected by the Nepal Floods

Communities in central Nepal have been hit by devastating flash floods and mudslides, causing loss of life, leaving people missing, and destroying homes, roads and vital infrastructure.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NEPAL?

On August 26, catastrophic flash flooding struck communities along Nepal’s northern border with Tibet after a massive collapse of ice, rock and debris surged into a mountain river. The flood swept through villages, destroyed homes, roads, bridges and power infrastructure, and left many communities cut off from help. Hundreds of people have been killed and more than 1,000 remain missing across Nepal and Tibet as search and rescue efforts continue. With access to affected areas severely disrupted, families urgently need support as local responders work to reach survivors and help communities begin the long road to recovery.

HOW IS TEARFUND RESPONDING?

Tearfund is preparing to respond through trusted local partners who understand the communities affected and are assessing where support is needed most. Because they are already connected to local communities, they are well placed to listen, identify priorities, and help ensure the response is shaped by the needs of those most impacted.

For families already facing the pressures of poverty, a disaster like this can deepen existing challenges and make recovery even harder. The loss of homes, livelihoods, roads and essential infrastructure can leave people facing difficult choices in the days, weeks and months ahead.
