Through local churches, faithful partners, and generous supporters, hope is taking shape in practical and powerful ways.
This year, as Tearfund Canada aligns its reporting with the fiscal year (July 2024–June 2025), we step into a new strategic season: Excel & Propel (2025–2028). Rooted in Christ’s love, this plan calls us to deepen impact, strengthen partnerships, and see hope advance across communities.
Every prayer, every gift, and every partnership helps carry this hope forward. Compelled by Christ’s love, we move together, propelled by hope.
This year marks an important moment in Tearfund Canada’s story. We are transitioning our reporting to match our fiscal year (July 2024 to June 2025) and beginning a new strategic chapter called Excel & Propel (2025 to 2028). It is a season shaped by movement: the movement of God’s Spirit, the movement of His Church, and the movement of hope in communities around the world.
As we reflect on what we’ve accomplished together, this year’s report highlights how hope continues to move, restore, rebuild, and transform. And wherever we go, we see hope propelled forward through local churches, on-the-ground partners, generous Canadians, and courageous communities who refuse to give up.
Across East Africa, churches are feeding their neighbours and leading reconciliation. In Tanzania and Ethiopia, farmers affected by climate shocks are harvesting again. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, savings groups are helping families overcome generational poverty with dignity. In Kenya, landscapes are being restored and creation is healing, while in South Sudan, families facing conflict are receiving emergency food assistance and support through trauma healing groups. In India, families recovering from disaster are rebuilding their lives with strength and hope. Here in Canada, our relationships with First Nations communities continue to deepen through shared learning and the return of the buffalo.
Through every story, one truth stands out: God is at work through His Church. When churches are equipped, communities flourish. When women are empowered, families thrive. When trauma is healed, futures open. And when disaster strikes, your support allows us to respond quickly.
This year also reflects careful stewardship. Tearfund Canada’s 5-Star Charity Intelligence rating recognizes our commitment to transparency, financial health, and strong outcomes. This affirmation strengthens us as we improve systems, deepen partnerships, and prepare for the next three years of growth.
Above all, our confidence remains in Christ. As we begin Excel & Propel, we commit to prayer, discernment, and trusting God to lead us. We hold to the words of 2 Corinthians 5:14: “For Christ’s love compels us…”
May we continue this work faithfully, courageously, and together,
propelled by hope.
Blessings,
Tearfund Canada’s Impact
2024-2025
In Bada Geter, Hobicha District, Sidama Region, agriculture shapes daily life. But for years, families faced shrinking harvests caused by degraded soil and unpredictable rainfall. Among them was Ato Zekarias, a farmer determined to provide for his family and overcome food insecurity.
When Veronica joined the Ujirani Mwema (Good Neighbours) Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA), she was a widow facing the uncertainties of raising her son alone. Her husband had passed away suddenly in December 2021, leaving her without financial security. By 2023, she found herself struggling to provide food and shelter. Yet within her community, a quiet movement of change was already taking place through a Tearfund supported VSLA facilitated by the Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT). Neighbours were saving together, lending to one another, and building a better future.
In Mbui Nzau, Kenya, deforestation and costly fuel threaten families’ livelihoods. Many households rely on firewood and charcoal, straining forests and household budgets. When Fadhili Trust, Tearfund’s local partner, began training young people to build efficient rocket stoves, 25-year-old Joshua saw an opportunity not only to earn income but also to restore creation.
For years, Kwabo Marungu and his wife Katungu Musoni struggled to produce enough food for their family in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Farming on depleted soil while caring for children left little room to dream or plan. Poor harvests made it difficult to buy school supplies or meet daily needs.
In a rural community in South Sudan, a young girl’s life was shattered when she was sexually assaulted by a neighbour. Her mother, overwhelmed with sorrow and fear, didn’t know where to turn. Shame, silence, and trauma often follow such events — but in this community, the local church had been equipped to walk with survivors in their healing journey.
When a devastating landslide struck Wayanad district in Kerala, India in 2024, it swept through communities without warning. Shylaja, her husband, and their three children were at home when torrents of mud and water rushed into their house in Chooralmala. They had seconds to escape, climbing to a neighbour’s terrace for safety. Moments later, another landslide destroyed what was left of their home.
On Treaty 4 Territory in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, buffalo once shaped every part of Indigenous life. Their near-extinction devastated culture, food systems, economies, and spiritual identity. Today, communities across the Prairies are restoring that sacred relationship, and Tearfund Canada is honoured to support this movement through financial partnership and a shared commitment to reconciliation.
Because trust matters. Because hope must be sustained.
Tearfund Canada exists to provide relief and development assistance to the world’s most oppressed, poor, and suffering people by partnering with churches and other Christian agencies and organizations.
We trust God for our finances. Our operations depend on the generosity of individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses, as well as contracts from Global Affairs Canada and through Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

But the work is not done.
As we step into our Excel & Propel (2025–2028) vision, we invite you to keep moving with us—to continue propelling hope where it’s needed most.
Because of your generosity:
