Not long ago, Eyasu couldn’t predict the weather anymore.

For years, he’d read the sky and known when to plant, when to expect rain, when to bring in the harvest. But the patterns he’d relied on his whole life stopped holding true. 

The rains came too hard or not at all. The farming methods that had always worked for him simply weren’t enough anymore. He didn’t know what else to try.

His wife, Bizunesh, felt it too. She looked after the family’s livestock, and when the land couldn’t produce enough to feed them, their cows stopped producing enough milk in return. 

Some months, the family had no choice but to sell off animals they’d raised and cared for, just to buy the food they could no longer grow themselves.
