A deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, March 28th, destroying lives across the region.
Tremors have reached as far as Thailand, China, India and Bangladesh. More than 2,000 people have been killed and around 3,900 injured. Many more are still buried in the rubble, and these numbers are expected to rise.
Those who survived the terrifying earthquake now face a desperate humanitarian crisis.
- People are in urgent need of medical care, shelter, food and water, and access to safe sanitation and hygiene.
- Hospitals are so overwhelmed that injured patients are being treated in car parks and streets.
- Essential infrastructure like roads, electricity and internet have been severely damaged, making communication challenging.
