Typhoon Mangkhut
On Friday, September 14, Super Typhoon Mangkhut made landfall to the northern part of the Philippines with sustained winds of up to 267 km/h and gusts over 330 km/h. This super typhoon was twice as powerful as Hurricane Florence, hitting the US east coast. As it hits fragile houses, the destruction is catastrophic.
Ten million people currently lie in the path of Typhoon Mangkhut and over four million people have been evacuated as a result of the category 5 storm. The Philippines has often experienced hardship in the aftermath of natural disasters. In 2013, the deadliest storm ever recorded in the country, Super Typhoon Haiyan, killed almost 7,000 people and left a trail of destruction in poverty-stricken areas.
As we quickly respond to the urgent needs of those affected by Mangkhut, we urge you to generously give towards our efforts to serve the people of the Philippines. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $50,000 that will go towards providing food, water and emergency assistance that will be distributed through the local church.
