Need
- South Ethiopia has faced three consecutive years of drought
- Over a million people face severe food shortages
- Water is extremely scarce
- Infants and mothers are most affected
- Close to a million animals have already died
- These animals are the only source of livelihood for these pastoral herders
- There are only 3 churches in the area
Response
- Tearfund Canada, along with its partner is responding
- Over 1 Million Kgs of food will be distributed in Moyale district, Ethiopia (15 km north of Kenyan Border)
- 13,000 people will receive emergency food for 6 months
- Pregnant women and mothers with young children are the priority
- Households with elderly, sick, orphaned, and those living with disabilities will also be a focus
- Total project costs $2.2 million
- We need the help of Canadian churches and congregations to raise $400,000
