Amaze Day 2023

The food crisis in South Sudan has reached its peak. Floods have destroyed homes and farms. Civil war has shattered major cities; families have fled in search of safe shelter.

The need in South Sudan is complex.

First, the region is experiencing extreme weather events

Secondly, civil conflict and violence threaten vulnerable women and children

Finally, the war in Sudan, crop failures, and chronic market insecurity have caused devastating inflation

Mary's Story

“The floods took all we had – our home, livestock, crops – everything. We escaped with what we could carry and eventually found refuge in makeshift shelters built by the UN.

But then, one night, my baby suddenly started shivering and his temperature rose so quickly. I knew he was sick. I had little choice, so I headed to the nearest health facility. It was night, the ground was wet. It was very dark. But I was scared and needed to save my baby.

Suddenly someone attacked me from behind. He put a sharp knife on my neck and threatened to slit my threat if I shoated. He began to tear my skirt and assulted me while my baby cried.

It was the worst experience of my life.

Today, you can help people like Mary

Mary’s life changed forever on that awful night… but you can make a lasting difference.

Today  Mary is participating in Tearfund’s counselling and trauma healing sessions because of generous people like you. Vulnerable, she receives emergency food. But more than that, our church partners are walking with her as she heals – standing by her physically, emotionally, and spiritualls.

By donating today you’ll be part of a holistic response:

1. Food for the most vulnerable

The most vulnerable families (widows, orphans, the elderly) will recieve emergency food vouchers that they can exchange for grains, beans, oil and salt.

2. Bible-Based Trauma Healing

2 out of every 3 women and girls have experience physical abuse, violance and rape. Walking alongside women like Mary who have been traumatized by violence is critical in assisting families.

3. Kitchen Gardens

While lifesaving food is essential, our response includes stratgies to increase the resilience of families. Starting with a 10 x 10 metre plot, we equip families with tools, seeds and training to plant small gardens – filled with okra, tomatoes, onions, and pumpkins. The garden is sufficient to feed the family and sell excess in the market, providing an income to help families recover long-term.

Your donation made on Amaze Day, June 22, will be leveraged 4 to 1.

Thanks to our incredible partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank, your donation will be stretched further. That means for every dollar you donate on Amaze Day, 5 dollars will go to help families in need!

  • $35 helps feed one people!
  • $175 helps feed one FIVE people!
  • $350 helps feed two TEN families!
  • $700 helps feed four TWENTY families!

People in South Sudan need your help. On June 22, please donate.
